College is wack! I don’t like school, I don’t know anyone whose gone, I’d rather make money as soon as I can.

“Brallan what are you going to do when you get older?” this was the question I would always get growing up. I would always say a construction worker because that’s all I knew and also didn’t believe that I would make it into college because I was not into school. I felt like it was pointless to go to high school if I wasn’t going to college. All I thought about was getting a job right after I finished school so I can make money to support my family. People would tell me that I should do something more than that but I ignored it because I didn’t believe I was good enough to go to college. I was not able to focus in school and be doing work I was unable to stop talking or staying still.

Seeing the students study whenever they want and are able to be free while still doing school work. Also watching the students ride bikes and having fun with their group of friends like playing football or soccer, was something I wanted to do when I got older and was going to college. It showed me that college was not like high school having teachers always on your back pushing you to do work college was more self paced and you had to find a way to get your work done on time and also have fun.

I finally figured out that I want to go to college.

I started to realize that I wanted to go to college after the college trip I had in my junior year of high school. I’m glad I was able to go to this college trip because  it opened my eyes and showed me that college is different and it would be something I would want to try out. Realizing that I wanted to go to college was important because it helped me to have more motivation to graduate and have more options of getting money without physical labor and not being able to move when I get older.

Last year, I went on my first college trip. Before attending this trip I thought that I would not be able to go to college, that I didn’t have a chance. I thought I didn't have a chance to go to college was because in school I saw myself as not being able to do school work and I really didn't enjoy school. Once I saw the colleges and experienced how all was up to you made me change my mind about college. I now have an open mind of trying to go even though I have faced challenges in high school. This experience was fun because I was able to see how free the students are and how you are able to do a lot of things to entertain yourself. This freedom of doing whatever you want would help me become more mature and find a way to manage things and be able to get stuff done while having fun. One thing that all three colleges had in common was independence for all students. It was nice seeing that and knowing that you are on your own to do things on time. Going to this college trip helped me figure out that I want to give college a chance and also helped me understand that having a degree opens more doors in the future. When I was little my parents would always tell me to try my hardest so I can go to college since it helps people get more chances in the world rather than staying the same place forever.
